Fat Olives

A quaint 17th Century Fisherman's cottage near the
quay which has been converted into a brasserie style restaurant.
Having spent several years working in large corporate hotels, Lawrence
and Julia Murphy decided to ‘go it alone’ with their first Restaurant,
Fat Olives which opened in January 2000.
A combination of Lawrence’s earlier career, spending time in kitchens in
France & Switzerland, along with Julia’s front office sales skills, gave
rise to them becoming ‘The News Restaurant of the Year’ runners up in
their first year of opening.
Recommended in the three main restaurant guides for 2002.

The
Brookfield Hotel
The Hermitage Restaurant is one of the hotel's most
popular features and has deservedly won a National Restaurant Award.
A Table D'hote Menu using fresh produce and quietly
attentive service in spacious surroundings ensures the restaurant is
well frequented both by hotel guests and local people.
The Restaurant imports much of its own wine for both its comprehensive
wine list and an innovative idea for off-sales called Hermitage Cellars.

Inexpensive and cheerful this small tearoom has a great
position just at the bottom of South Street, opposite the quayside. It
sells hot or cold snacks, drinks and ice cream which you can have
either inside or outside. Inside it is snug; outside there are a few
tables on the edge of the road from where you can look at the boats and
the birds in the harbour and watch the people go by.
