Although there are several
areas in Chichester Harbour which are suitable for swimming and where it is
perfectly safe to do so most visitors visit either Southsea or West
Wittering beaches, both about 30 minutes by road or Hayling Island, about 20
minutes by road..
Southsea
A pebble beach, fairly steeply shelving in places and lots of typical seaside
entertainment including South Parade Pier and a fun fair at Clarence Parade.
There are
also
ornamental gardens, putting green & etc.

West Wittering
A wide, sandy and gently shelving beach close to the
entrance to Chichester Harbour. Not safe to swim close to the harbour
entrance but otherwise ideal for young children. A very large car park behind
the beach with café and ice-cream kiosks. Also nearby is East Head an area
of sand dunes and a nature reserve

.
Hayling Island
A
shingle beach with extensive areas of sand at low water. Plenty to do
and see including a funfair and The Hayling Light Railway. Popular
with wind surfers. Extensive views to Portsmouth in the west, the Isle
of Wight to the south and Selsey Bill to the east.
